Child Protection Mechanism project

The Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism project

With the support of the GARCIA Foundation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to reduce the risk of child exploitation and abuse in two districts in Bangladesh, where GARCIA clothing producers are located, and permanently enhance the lives of children and families.
The Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism project focuses on structurally protecting children from violence and abuse, bolstering social safety nets, and creating better development opportunities for children.
In a collaborative approach, local stakeholders, including parents, carers, community members, and NGO workers, will lead in designing and implementing key interventions.

Empowering from Within

The project’s core is to instil a deep-rooted awareness of the rights of the children of garment workers in Bangladesh within local communities and all associated agencies, from government to employers. The aim is to shield these children from abuse and amplify their development opportunities. To achieve this transformative change in local society, three primary goals have been set:

  1. Equip children to advocate for and claim their rights.
  2. Enable families and communities to be proactive and responsive in providing care and support to children, addressing their needs.
  3. Ensure that the government, CSOs, private sectors, and other relevant stakeholders strengthen the Child Protection System and respond to the needs of the children of RMG workers.
